Background - I practiced commercial litigation at a global law firm from 2007-2017 before opening a mediation practice in 2018. Since then I have only practiced alternative dispute resolution. I mediate litigated cases, pre-litigation conflict, workplace conflicts, and I design customized training to departments, boards and teams.

As a lawyer, I worked on cases in the areas of commercial, shareholder, employment, construction, and regulatory law. I have mediated shareholder disputes, employment cases, contract disputes and insurance cases, among others. My workplace mediation experience includes supporting organizations in the not-for-profit sector, municipalities, first responders, healthcare professionals, post-secondary institutions, and unions.

I am formerly an adjudicative decision-maker for the Toronto Local Appeal Body, the first local appeal body constituted under the Planning Act. That experience complemented my longstanding interest in urban planning and housing issues and gave me further knowledge of the applicable legislative and regulatory regime. This, combined with my construction and commercial law experience and work as a mediator with developers, housing providers, and municipalities, makes me uniquely situated to mediate disputes in that field.

My skill is in identifying the unspoken dynamics affecting a conflict, usually very quickly. I put people at ease and take time to establish rapport with disputants. Apart from my subject matter experience, I am often appointed to mediate disputes where the personal and professional intertwine.
