Practice Description - | Elaine Newman has thirty-five years' experience as highly effective mediator and arbitrator, working primarily in the fields of wrongful dismissal, human rights, harassment in employment, and labour relations. In 2019 she received the Ontario Bar Association Award of Excellence for Dispute Resolution. She is a leader in the education of mediators, and is the author of the Course "Practical Ethics Course for Working Mediators" provided by the ADR Institute of Ontario. She is a frequent speaker and an author. She is the former lead instructor of Dispute Resolution for Atkinson Faculty of York University, and Lead Instructor of the Queen's University Industrial Relations Centre. She was Associate Director of the LL.M. Program in Labour and Employment Law at Osgoode Hall Law School. Elaine Newman's handbook on the prevention of workplace violence was published by Lancasterhouse in 2012. Mrs. Newman employs an approach to mediation which is respectful of counsel. She will offer confidential neutral evaluation of a case when requested to do so, taking the view that legal advice is to come from counsel, and not the mediator. |

Fees - | Available on request. Policy on fee reduction: Mrs. Newman will perform mediation services at reduced rates where counsel are working at reduced rates. Mrs. Newman will perform mediation services pro bono where counsel are working pro bono. |
