| Practice Description - | Richard has been practising law in the areas of employment law, personal injury litigation, estate litigation and commercial litigation for over 25 years. Throughout his career he has recognized that what a client most wants is a reasonable resolution at an early stage. After training as a mediator in 2003 and 2004, Richard has been mediating disputes in his areas of knowledge since that time. Richard attempts to create a calm and respectful enviroment at mediation to allow participants to concentrate on resolving their disputes. |
| Background - | Born in Ottawa, Richard was called to the Bar in 1985 and practiced with two smaller firms before joining the law firm Basman Smith as a partner in 1993. In 2016 he moved his practice to Mills & Mills LLP where he now practices as a partner concentrating on Estates litigation and commercial litigation. Richard's years of litigation experience allow him to successfully mediate in his areas of experience of Estates litigation, commercial litigation, employment law and personal injury litigation. Richard's preferred approach as a mediator is an 'interest based' approach, attempting to assist the parties to come to a practical and fair resolution all can live with. Richard's extensive experience as a litigator is also of assistance, however, where a 'rights based' approach is adopted. |
